Optional — leave it on “Whole province” to see every hospital for this option in the province. Pick a town and it becomes the pin drop: the closest 5 on this network first, then “Show five more” for the next 5, and so on.

About this list — coverage & caveats CoverCheck — Know before you goCoverCheck — Know before you go

South Africa has 71 registered medical schemes — 16 open and 55 restricted (CMS). This app now carries every scheme named for 2026 in CMS Circular 41 of 2025: all 16 open schemes, plus the 54 restricted schemes named in the circular (the circular's text names 54 against the 55 restricted schemes the CMS reported for 2024 — one name may be truncated, so this register may be one scheme short). What differs, scheme by scheme, is how much the scheme itself publishes. Full hospital-by-hospital coverage of every scheme is not possible from public sources — many schemes publish only a rule, a search tool, or nothing public at all, and those are labelled exactly that way.

Added 2 Nov 2026: psychiatric units, rehabilitation facilities and step-down facilities now appear in the list too (88 places from 2026 scheme lists and operator pages, plus rehab units shown under their parent hospital). They carry their facility type on the card and their cover is marked “not verified” — use the scheme number under the list to confirm — and the new Psychiatric units only / Rehab facilities only buttons filter to just those. A further 82 directory-only candidates are held for a later check, not loaded.

Full hospital lists loaded

  • Discovery Health — Delta, Smart, KeyCare, KeyCare Start and KeyCare Start Regional networks, hospital by hospital (2026 list, version dated 13 Jul 2026). Dynamic Smart and Coastal are tool-only by design.
  • Bestmed — the combined Beat Network + Rhythm DSP list (2026) — one list shared by all five network options, not split per option. Pace and non-network Beat options are not DSP-restricted, so they show any private hospital for reference instead of that narrower list.
  • Genesis — no list needed: every option is any private hospital.

Lists loaded — with caveats

  • Medshield — the 2026 Prime/Compact list is loaded. Hospitals marked in both networks are certain; a hospital in only one network must be checked in Medshield's PDF, because the column order can't be confirmed from the extracted text.
  • Medihelp — the combined hospital list loaded is the 2025 list; Medihelp's network tiers (Tier 1 / 2 / 3) are confirmed but are not separated in that list, and no 2026 tier-by-tier list is published.

Rule, group or tool only

  • Hospital-group rules — CompCare and Cape Medical Plan (Netcare / Mediclinic / Life groups), KeyHealth (Netcare + Life + selected Mediclinics — the selected subset is not named), CAMAF Network options, Suremed Explorer, Thebemed (DSP groups confirmed 31 Oct 2026).
  • Tool or PDF only — Bonitas (option-group PDFs + Locate a Provider), Momentum (one combined list whose network columns can't be assigned reliably), Fedhealth GRID / Savvy / myFED, GEMS (monthly provincial PDFs, not split by option), Polmed Aquarium (PDF not transcribed), Profmed and Bankmed (finder / app only).
  • Rule-only small print — Makoti, Medimed, Sizwe Hosmed (under curatorship; no master list), Sasolmed, Netcare Medical Scheme, Transmed, Moto Healthcare, SABC, SAMWUMED, Wooltru.

Not publicly listable

  • 39 further restricted schemes are in the scheme picker above with their 2026 options from Circular 41 — AECI to Witbank Coalfields. For each one, no public hospital list, rule or lookup sufficient to name hospitals exists; their cover runs through member portals and scheme rules, so the app says exactly that rather than guessing.
  • Commed and Liberty Health do not appear in CMS Circular 41 for 2026. Older descriptions of them (including Liberty's Hospital Select / Standard / Plus) are historic, not current — they are deliberately not in the picker.
